iVCalculator provides the medical professional with a simple to use application to perform routine intravenous calculations. iVCalculator shows the drops per minute as well and the milliliters per hour for the specific calculations and allows the user to change the calibration and automatically recalculate the calculation with a simple touch of a button.

The approach taken in the application was to provide the needed calculations and results for either a manual drip or an automated pump application. The main reason for this approach is the nature of emergency medicine. There are times when the needed caliber of IV tubing is not available and the calculations require recalculation for the tubing on hand as well as moving from an automated pump to a manual drip during a power outage.

The following calculators are currently implemented:

Drops per Minute Calculator

Calculates the drops per minute and mL/h for an IV or IV Piggy Back based on the mL ordered, the tubing calibration, and the duration in minutes.

IVPB Restricted Fluids Calculator

Calculates the drops per minute and mL/h for an IV Piggy Back with restricted fluids based on the PB mL ordered, the tubing calibration, the duration of the PB in minutes, the total hours of the IV, the total mL of the IV, and the number of times the PB is administered during the infusion time.

Infusion Time Calculator

Calculates infusion time in hours and minutes based on the total milliliters of the IV, the tubing calibration, and the milliliters per hour.

Infusion Volume Calculator

Calculates the total IV volume based on total hours and milliliters per hour.

Off Schedule IV Calculator

Calculates the variation percent for an Off Schedule IV based on the Ordered IV mL/h and the Adjusted IV mL/h.

BSA Metric Calculator

Calculates the Body Surface Area based on the individuals height in centimeters and the weight in kilograms.

BSA US Standard Calculator

Calculates the Body Surface Area based on the individuals height in inches and the weight in pounds. Returns BSA in meters squared.

Dosage (lbs->mg/kg)

Calculates the dosage specified based on the patient weight in pounds, dosage mg, minimum dosage in mg per kg, maximum dosage in mg per kg, and the number of times ordered in a 24-hour period. Result is total dosage in mg over 24 hours. Patient weight is converted to Kg for this calculation.

Dosage (kg->mg/kg)

Calculates the dosage specified based on the patient weight in kilograms, dosage mg, minimum dosage in mg per kg, maximum dosage in mg per kg, and the number of times ordered in a 24-hour period. Result is total dosage in mg over 24 hours.
